Jivamukti yogA

Rooted in yoga philosophy.
experienced in the physical body.

Yoga is more than stretching and inverting and twisting and coming into different shapes and poses. While our soul is contained in this body, it is helpful that we pay close attention to how our body responds to our mind and our spirit.
When we experience anger or fear or any difficult emotion, how does the body react? Consequently, how can we tap into body awareness to live a more connected life? Yoga puts together movement and sound and breathing and concentration and commitment with a clear intent-- to free ourselves. In other words, to become a jivan mukta (a soul liberated while still living in this body). |

frequently asked questions
Q: What makes this master class series different from the weekly Jivamukti Yoga Classes at the studio?
A: The Jivamukti Yoga master classes are 120-minutes long. While they have a similar structure as a Jivamukti Open-Level Class, the longer format offers a more comprehensive dharma talk and meditation. Moreover, some of the elements are taught in a workshop format (using the wall, partner exercises, group sharing, etc). The themes are selected to represent the values of the Jivamukti lineage.
Q: Are these classes suitable for beginners?
A: Classes are open to yoga practitioners who are interested in the spiritual and philosophical roots of yoga. It is recommended that students have at least a 3-month practice or a basic understanding of foundational poses. Complete beginners may find the master class series difficult to follow; therefore it is suggested that they take weekly Jivamukti Yoga Classes (or other yoga classes) first, and decide if they're ready to jump into the August series or September workshop.
Q: Do I need to be advanced in yoga poses to take these classes?
A: It is not necessary for students to know complicated yoga poses to join the master classes. There will be options and variations as well as opportunities to learn and grow. While advanced yoga poses are included, they are entirely optional, and only serve as a tool in which to study yoga philosophy.
