class description

Integrated Yoga for Absolute Beginners
This class introduces beginners to yoga as a philosophy. Not only do we cultivate strength, balance, and flexibility, we also honor the spiritual roots of the practice.

Introduction to Inversions
This class helps build a strong foundation for inversions. The format includes a short warm-up, repeated drills, pose preparation, and multiple sets of inversion practice.

Jivamukti
This class combines yoga philosophy, vinyasa-based yoga sequences, music, and meditation. Challenging poses are included but optional.
Yin Yoga for Back Pain Relief
This is a slow-paced practice designed to help loosen tight spots that aggravate back pain. Perfect for those looking to relieve discomfort from prolonged sitting.

Yin Yoga for Better Sleep
This is a quiet session focused on passive stretching. Get better sleep by releasing tension in the body, slowing down the breath, and regulating the nervous system.

Yoga for Tired Bodies
This is open to anyone who needs to reset their body from exhaustion. The practice combines gentle movements, passive stretches, and myofascial release.

frequently asked questions

Q: Are the group yoga classes suitable for beginners?
A: Yes! All classes are open to all levels, though not all classes are the same. Yin Yoga for Back Pain Relief, Yin Yoga for Better Sleep, Yoga for Tired Bodies, and Integrated Yoga for Absolute Beginners are demonstrated so you have visual cues for all of the poses. Introduction to Inversions include demonstrations, though some of the drills and poses could be challenging. Jivamukti classes use only verbal cues and the poses are not broken down. Beginners who are curious about a higher-intensity practice are also welcome to try Jivamukti.

Q: What can I expect from the group yoga classes that you teach?
A:  I do not take photos or videos during classes, and I also ask students to keep phones and gadgets away from the practice space. My priority as a teacher is to provide a space for you to go deep into your practice, both physically and emotionally, without having your private moments captured. I find that many students become concerned with appearance or performance when being recorded, and this interferes with the intention of fully showing up and taking time to look within. I also aim for my classes to be safe and inclusive, especially for populations who experience systemic discrimination because of their gender, race, size, ability, class, etc.

Q: How do I prepare for group yoga classes?
A: It is best to plan for travel time and/or parking and locating the studio so you can settle in 5 to 10 minutes before class starts. There are yoga mats and props in the studio, though you can bring your own if you prefer. Practice proper hygiene by making sure you wipe off perfume or any other strong smell, and check that your feet are clean before stepping on the yoga mat.

Q: How can I make the most out of joining group yoga classes?
A: There are options and variations for all poses. To make the most out of your practice, you can explore using props to support you, ground you, and keep you safe. Consent cards are provided in some classes where hands-on assists are offered. You may choose to opt in or opt out. Part of taking group yoga classes is also learning to share a common space-- try your best not to disrupt other students, while extending patience and compassion to those who may come in late, have strong reactions to the practice, fall asleep and snore during guided rest or meditation, etc.

Q: Are the group yoga classes you teach trauma-informed?
A: Yes. All the classes I teach are consent-based, trauma-informed, gender-affirmative, and free from body shaming. Your pronouns are respected. You can say no anytime. You can leave if you need to. You can cry-- no questions asked. You can give me feedback directly or anonymously if I unknowingly cause harm to you.

Q: Do you offer scholarships for the group yoga classes?
A: Yes. If you earn minimum wage, have no reliable source of income, or are taking care of elderly or disabled members of your family, please email me at [email protected] with the subject line "scholarship". There is room for you in my class.

Q: How can I best support your work so you can continue to offer group yoga classes in a studio setting?
A: My teaching income from group yoga classes is dependent on the number of sign-ups and booking platform used. When you book your yoga classes at the studio website directly, this helps the studio get a more equitable share of the revenue, which in turn supports providing a teaching fee that is commensurate to my experience and the time and effort I put into preparing the classes. If you find the group yoga classes helpful and meaningful to you in some way, please also leave a positive review on Google Maps listing and tell your family, friends, and colleagues about these group yoga classes.
