It is safe for your body to rest
We move away from overstimulation of the senses, and instead choose to do as little as possible
to let the body know it is now ready to wind down.

frequently asked questions
Q: How is yin yoga different from other styles of yoga?
A: Yin yoga targets the connective tissues instead of muscles. Because of that, the poses may look the same as more active practices (like Jivamukti or Ashtanga or Vinyasa), but the approach is entirely different. Instead of exerting muscular effort to find the maximum range of motion within 5 or 10 breaths, yin yoga lets the body relax through the use of long holds in a gentle stretching position.
Q: What is the format of Yin Yoga for Better Sleep class?
A: The classes are one-hour long. Before the class begins, you may choose to use calming essential oils if you like. Each student will have access to at least 2 blocks and 1 bolster to support them in the poses. For each pose, I will demonstrate the options from the most supported to the most intense variations. If you find that none of the options work for you, you may call my attention by raising your hand and we will find another way for you to find the stretch in the target area. The time allotted for each pose is around 3 minutes, but you are welcome to come out early when the stretch starts to feel unbearable. You are also free to modify or even come into a completely different pose. You are highly encouraged to listen to the signals of your body. There will be a total of about 8-10 poses in each class including savasana (final rest). No photos or videos will be taken in these classes to guarantee your privacy. There are also no physical assists in this class so you may reclaim your own body trust and autonomy.
Q: Who can benefit from Yin Yoga for Better Sleep?
A: This class benefits anyone who wants to have better quality sleep, but most especially folks who struggle with insomnia or anxiety or who work long hours or who train intensively. In addition, this class is open to all bodies regardless of size, race, gender, age etc. I also open up the class to limited scholarships for folks who may be low income and hold marginalized identities.
