frequently asked questions
Q: What is the format of a Yoga for Tired Bodies class?
A: The class starts with introduction and reminders. This is the best time to ask questions or make specific requests. The practice itself will start with gentle movements to loosen up tight spots and creaky joints, followed by passive stretches (yin poses) held for 1-3 minutes to target connective tissues, and ends with myofascial release to ease tired muscles. There will be a short resting period to allow you to feel the effects of the movements, holds, and self-massage. The entire class lasts 45 minutes.
Q: What can I expect from this practice?
A: Classes start and end on time. The studio provides yoga props such as yoga mats, cork blocks, belts, bolsters, and massage balls. It is suggested that you show up in comfortable clothing so you can move with ease and hold poses without the constriction of tight clothing, jewelry, or accessories. Since this is a gentle practice meant to ease exhaustion, there will be no hands-on assists. No photos or videos will be taken in these classes to guarantee your privacy, and you are also requested to keep your mobile phone away from the practice space. You have full autonomy over your body, you get to set boundaries that are appropriate for your body, and you are encouraged to give me feedback so we can work together to make the practice safe and sustainable for you.
Q: Can I take this class if I haven't practiced yoga before?
A: Yes! This class is perfect for beginners since the movements are slow, gentle, and low-intensity. There will be no strength-training in this specific class. The exploration of flexibility is done in a no-pressure, non-competitive environment so you can be introduced to yoga poses in an accessible way. Props are also provided as tools for support.
Q: Can I take this class if I am an athlete?
A: Yes! You may take this class for active recovery to return to your normal physiological and psychological state soon after training. The slow, passive stretches and myofasical release not only ease muscle tension from your training days, but they also aid in adding mobility to help you in your athletic performance and prevent injuries. In the same way that foam-rolling or sports massages complement your training, this class can also be one of the tools you tap into to allow your body to repair itself.
